A local dog enthusiast from the Miami-Dade Animal Services sent Laura and her husband a photo of Rusty. With his floppy ears similar to Cane’s, they felt an immediate connection.

Despite seeing a warning on Rusty’s cage about being “not good with other dogs” and “aggressive,” the couple felt compelled to adopt him, fearing he might face an uncertain future otherwise.

Rusty feared cars, indicating he had been a stray for some time. Laura and her husband faced several challenges in gaining trust, but their efforts eventually paid off.

Rusty formed a strong bond with Laura’s husband, who spent many evenings cuddling with him on the couch.

To help Rusty adjust, Laura’s husband established a nightly bedtime routine at 10 PM. This consistency helped Rusty feel secure, reducing his erratic behavior and deepening his affection for his new owner.

Laura’s other senior dog, Slayde, seemed to view Rusty as overly energetic and youthful. Additionally, the couple had two cats who were particularly fond of Laura’s husband.

They affectionately referred to Rusty as their “Miami German Shepherd” due to his taller stature and unique appearance.

With his striking red coat and expressive eyes, Rusty quickly captured Laura’s heart. Although he was still learning to play ball and was protective of his space, his new family was dedicated to showing him that he was in a loving and safe environment.
