Ashley Boggs found herself on a winding road through the forests of Puerto Rico when she witnessed an event that compelled her to stop. Ahead of her, traffic had halted because a small brown puppy was approaching cars, seemingly seeking help.
Being a volunteer with Miracles for Satos Rescue, Boggs quickly grasped the situation. The reason for the puppy’s distress became clear; the mother dog’s puppies were in need of help nearby.
“When I got out, I discovered she was a nursing mother, so I decided to follow her,” Boggs shared with The Dodo.
It wasn’t long before Boggs spotted two puppies by the roadside. She quickly gathered the mother and her puppies and took them to safety. But her mission didn’t stop there. She knew more puppies were in need, so she continued her search.
“I went to check when I heard puppy screams coming from the woods area,” Boggs explained.
Venturing into the lush greenery, Boggs started noticing tiny, curious eyes looking back at her through the foliage.
“I was amazed at how many there were,” she said. “I was also upset because I knew they wouldn’t have lived if I hadn’t discovered them.
There was no food or water left, and they were in a remote location. It is both joyous and sad at the same time. They were simply lovely.”
Boggs managed to rescue four more puppies from the woods and returned them safely to her vehicle. Soon, the entire family of seven was back together and journeying toward the safety of a local shelter.

The grateful mother dog, later named Goji, couldn’t express her gratitude enough. “She was extremely kind and continued kissing and hugging me to express her gratitude,” Boggs noted.
Despite their previous ordeal, Goji and her puppies quickly adapted to their new surroundings, charming everyone at the shelter with their affectionate and playful nature.
“The mother is an angel,” Boggs continued. “She is very sweet and likes having people pet her. The pups are incredibly amusing. They love playing with the volunteers and tying the shoelaces.”
Good news followed—two of the puppies have already found loving homes. Goji and the rest of her puppies are also anticipated to be adopted soon, ensuring they’ll never have to face the hard journey of survival in the wild again.
