At Seaview Lion Park in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, an unexpected friendship has formed between Solo, a tricolored Border Collie, and an eight-month-old tiger cub. This unusual pair is inseparable, spending their days playing, eating, and even grooming each other.
Gamekeeper Ashley Gombert first spotted their connection when he saw Solo and the tiger cub joyfully playing in a lake.

Since then, the two have become constant companions, often seen riding together in Gombert’s Jeep during trips around town.
Solo, true to his Border Collie instincts, sometimes herds the tiger cub, but his protective nature shows through in how he cares for his feline friend. He acts like an older sibling, watching the cub and ensuring it’s well looked after.

Despite the clear difference in size, Solo and the tiger cub love to engage in playful activities, from mock wrestling to swimming in the lakes at the park.
Gombert, who has worked extensively with tigers, finds the bond remarkable, as tigers usually form connections only with their kind.
He highlights Solo’s nurturing side, which includes sharing food and grooming with the cubs that arrive at the reserve.

Though the tiger cub will eventually outgrow its space and be relocated, Gombert believes the strong bond between Solo and the cub will remain.
