Dogs have a knack for grabbing anything they can get their mouths on, and pet owners know this all too well. Dogs often try to chew, lick, or swallow items that are clearly not meant to be food.
This was the case with a Spaniel involved in a bizarre incident.
Dr. Shelby Baden, a veterinarian in Florida, highlighted the peculiar event with the expressive phrase, “What The Duck?!”
This odd situation unfolded when Dr. Baden posted a video on Instagram, capturing a Spaniel under anesthesia on an operating table. The unsuspecting dog lay there peacefully, unaware of the medical commotion it had caused.

During the procedure, the veterinary team meticulously worked to retrieve an unexpected object from the Spaniel’s stomach. An X-ray showed something lodged inside, leaving even the seasoned staff bemused once revealed.
To everyone’s surprise, the obstructive object was a small green rubber duck. The Spaniel had somehow managed to swallow the toy whole.
Thanks to the veterinary team, the risky situation was resolved safely, and the rubber duck was successfully extracted.

The dog’s owner had rushed the Spaniel to the clinic after realizing the incident, bringing along the remainder of the toy set.
Dr. Baden shared with Yahoo News Australia, “Even though they were in a state of emergency, the owner remembered to take other ducks from the set (five of them) as moral support for their rubber brother.”
Making light of the strange scenario, the clinic staff placed the retrieved duck next to the others on the exam table, creating a playful reunion among the toys.

This amusing set-up quickly spread online, leaving viewers wondering about the sudden duck gathering.
While the video entertained many, Dr. Baden had a crucial message behind it. She wanted to raise awareness about the dangers of dogs swallowing toys or other small objects that might seem harmless at first.

According to Growls And Howls Animal Rescue, there are over 200,000 instances of choking among dogs in the United States each year. Fortunately, many of these don’t end tragically, but there are still too many heartbreaking stories.
This incident serves as a vivid reminder that even seemingly safe toys require vigilance. Dogs, known for chewing on unexpected items, can be persistent in getting things into their mouths, often swallowing them if owners aren’t cautious.
