Visitors recently met the cub, who made its public debut playing with its mother, Nanga, aged four. Dad is three-year-old Margaash.

A First-Time Mom Assistant Curator, Richard Brown, said that it’s Nanga’s first time being a mom, and they’re thrilled that the bond between mother and cub is developing well.

Brown noted, “You can see the baby developing daily; it’s wonderful to watch, and it already seems quite a feisty little cub.”

Capturing the Precious Moments Photographer Tal Choha, who was there for the cub’s public debut, shared the unique challenges of capturing the perfect moments.

“The youngster’s routine is to sleep for two hours, play for five minutes, then sleep again for two hours before playing for another five minutes. So, I had to ensure I got there in time for those crucial five minutes!” he said.

Snow Leopard Facts Snow leopard cubs are born after a gestation period of 90-100 days. They have full black spots that become the familiar rosette pattern as they mature.

Snow leopards come from Central Asia and live in remote areas at high altitudes, ranging from 6,000 to 18,000 feet.

They are listed as a threatened species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with their numbers declining due to habitat loss, poaching, and conflicts with humans over livestock.

A Future for Snow Leopards Dudley Zoological Gardens hopes that the birth of Cub X signals a bright future for snow leopards, whose population has faced many challenges in the wild.
