While driving down a busy highway, Roger spotted something that made him slam on the brakes. A tiny dog was sitting in the right lane, dangerously close to passing traffic.
Without hesitating, Roger pulled off the road and approached the puppy, who immediately ran into his arms as if he knew he’d been saved.

The little dog, later named R2, curled up in Roger’s lap and fell asleep on the ride home. Despite everything he had been through, he showed immediate trust in the stranger who stopped to help.
It was the beginning of a new life for a puppy who had clearly come from a heartbreaking past.
When they arrived home, Roger and his wife discovered that R2 was covered in ticks and fleas.

A call to their veterinarian revealed more details: R2 had likely spent most of his young life confined in a small box or crate.
This explained his fear of grass, difficulty walking, and the condition of his feet. But R2 quickly began to change.
Just over a week later, he looked like a different dog—eating peanut butter for the first time, learning to walk confidently on grass, and even wagging his tail when Roger or his daughter entered the room.

His physical therapy helped correct the issues with his feet, and he began adjusting to normal life with surprising ease.
Roger’s wife knew early on that R2 belonged with them. The couple formally adopted him as their fourth rescue dog, and he’s since become a beloved part of their family.
R2 is still working on adjusting to new environments and getting used to things like car rides and sleeping in a bed, but he’s come a long way from the scared puppy abandoned on the highway.

His story is a powerful reminder of how quickly a life can change when someone chooses to care. What started as a near-tragedy ended in a new beginning, filled with kindness, patience, and a whole lot of peanut butter.
