During one of his routine walks to feed stray animals in his town in Serbia, Goran Marinkovic heard faint cries coming from a pile of debris.
Following the desperate sounds, he came upon a heartbreaking sight: a tiny puppy curled up inside an old boot, trying to survive in the cold with no mother in sight.
The puppy was wet, shivering, and clearly starving—but she had just enough strength to eat every bit of food Goran offered her. Moved by her will to live, Goran decided he couldn’t leave her behind. He named her Smesten and took her straight to the vet, knowing her chances were slim but determined to try.
Thanks to his care and persistence, Smesten began to recover. Day by day, she grew stronger. Her coat became soft and shiny again, and the once-frightened little pup turned into a joyful, playful companion.
Six months later, Smesten’s transformation is nothing short of amazing. She now lives with Goran and his girlfriend, surrounded by love and her new canine siblings.
But Smesten’s story doesn’t end there—she now accompanies Goran on his daily rounds, helping him feed other stray animals still in need.
Goran cares for over 100 dogs and cats, dedicating his life to animal welfare and showing the world the impact one person can have. Smesten’s story is a shining example of what love, compassion, and action can do.
