A dramatic encounter occurred at the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in central India, where a group of langur monkeys narrowly escaped a potentially deadly situation involving a tiger.
Narayan Malu, a 39-year-old industrialist, witnessed the rare event and shared his footage with LatestSightings.com.
The langur monkeys, typically found in the treetops where they find food and safety, were gathered around a waterhole, engaging in their usual activities. These waterholes are common spots for the monkeys to quench their thirst and forage for food.
Unbeknownst to them, a tigress frequently visited this particular waterhole. Malu and others present were searching for the tigress but didn’t expect much to happen, as the monkeys appeared calm and unaware of any nearby danger.
Suddenly, the tigress revealed herself. Hidden in the vegetation surrounding the waterhole, she silently stalked her prey—the unsuspecting langur monkeys. Malu quickly readied his equipment, anticipating a dramatic turn of events.
With a sudden, precise leap, the tigress struck, killing one of the monkeys with a fatal blow. She then carried her catch into the thick foliage to feed.
Tigers, known for their stealth and hunting expertise, often use the dense forest cover to conceal themselves while ambushing their prey.
The forest was briefly filled with the terrified cries of the remaining monkeys, but just as quickly, silence fell as if nothing unusual had happened.
This incident occurred at the well-known Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, India. As skilled hunters, Tigers have a varied diet that includes small primates like langur monkeys and medium-sized antelopes.
Although they typically hunt under the cover of night, they are also opportunistic and will seize chances during the day.
