Chata Gil, a kind-hearted resident of Los Angeles, recently experienced a moving encounter while visiting her family in El Salvador. During her stay, she was struck by the number of stray dogs roaming the streets, left to fend for themselves.
One particular dog caught her attention. It wandered from table to table at a local restaurant, hoping for food, but was continually shunned by diners. Many labeled the dog as “ugly” and showed no willingness to help.
Despite facing criticism and even ridicule from onlookers, Chata chose to act differently. Determined to make a difference, she followed her heart and fed the dog, while others disapproved of her actions.
Unable to forget the dog, Chata went back looking for it. She found the creature curled up on the street, abandoned and afraid. Her compassion led her to approach and feed the dog again, aiming to rebuild its trust in humans. She contacted the Miracles of Love Association in El Salvador to transport the dog to a veterinarian.
The veterinary examination revealed that the dog was healthier than its outward appearance suggested. Initially, Chata contemplated euthanasia to end what seemed like the dog’s suffering, but she decided to seek further help.
Determined to give the dog a chance, Chata reached out to the Saving Huey Foundation, an animal rescue organization based in the United States. She planned to fly back to the U.S. shortly, but first ensured the dog, now named “Sal,” received the necessary care.
Sal is currently under medical attention in El Salvador, waiting to recover enough to make his way to Southern California. Meanwhile, Tracy Lystra from the Saving Huey Foundation is actively monitoring Sal’s progress and taking care of his veterinary expenses through PayPal support.
