When a severely undernourished dog was found by the side of a busy highway, it was evident that it had been through tough times.
The dog’s bones were visible beneath its skin, and most of its fur had fallen out due to illness and lack of nutrition.
Too feeble to move, the dog struggled even to stand or walk. It sought refuge beneath a small billboard, which offered some protection from the elements, but it was clear that it needed help urgently.
Rescue workers were determined to give the dog a second chance. A woman gently picked up the dog and placed it inside her car.
Overcome with emotion, she was moved to tears by seeing the animal in such a dire state, recognizing the suffering it had endured alone.
The rescue team quickly transported the dog to a nearby veterinary clinic to see if any assistance could be offered. The vets were shocked by the dog’s condition.
Swift action was taken. The vets conducted a thorough examination and found that the dog was suffering from mange and parasites, along with severe malnutrition and dehydration.
However, they were optimistic about its recovery. Named Lancris, the dog was placed on a strict feeding regimen designed to help regain weight.
Throughout the day, Lancris consumed small amounts of food frequently, a plan that would continue until it reached a safer weight. Once healthier, the feeding schedule would shift to larger meals.
With the assurance from the vets of a potential recovery, Lancris was released from the clinic and entrusted into the care of the woman who initially rescued him.
