Little Knox’s journey has been fraught with challenges since the day he was born.
Nonetheless, his inspiring story shows how overcoming the toughest battles can lead to the most rewarding victories.

Knox was born into a family already struggling to get by, adding to their immediate challenges. His mother, unable to provide adequate care due to her own frailty, watched Knox, the smallest of the litter, suffer from Demodex mange—caused by poor conditions and inadequate nutrition.
Faced with the inability to care for their young ones, Knox’s family made the heart-wrenching decision to surrender them. That’s when Happy Feet Pet Rescue in Lansing, Michigan, stepped in, committed to giving Knox a fighting chance. The rescue team and his foster mother worked tirelessly to treat his mange and rid him of fleas. Yet, just as things looked promising, they discovered Knox was facing an even bigger health crisis.

Knox was found to have several critical heart issues, including a heart murmur, enlarged heart, patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), and a leaky mitral valve.
The team was concerned these conditions could shorten Knox’s life. However, hope appeared with Dr. Christian Weder from Mid-Michigan Veterinary Cardiology. Following an echocardiogram, Dr. Weder offered uplifting news: Knox’s heart could be surgically repaired.

The surgery was to take place at the Animal Surgical Center of Michigan, but a significant hurdle remained—the $3,800 procedure was beyond the rescue’s financial reach.
Determined to help Knox, Happy Feet Pet Rescue turned to their community, launching a fundraiser on Facebook. The community’s response was overwhelming; donations poured in, fully covering the surgery costs. Thanks to this generosity, Knox underwent surgery and pulled through with a renewed lease on life.

Within just a week of starting the fundraiser, Happy Feet Pet Rescue was thrilled to announce via Facebook that Knox’s surgery was successful. He returned home to his foster family in Lansing to recover.
His new scar, a testament to his resilience, marks the beginning of his next life chapter.

“Now that he’s healthy and brimming with life, Knox is ready for puppy adventures and endless love,” expressed Happy Feet Pet Rescue on Facebook. “He seeks a special family, one who appreciates his journey and sees the remarkable potential within him.”
After enduring so much, Knox is now ready for adoption. Here’s hoping this courageous little pup finds the loving home he deserves!
