While a couple enjoyed the warmth of their fireplace, their dog was left outside in the freezing snow, struggling to survive.

Sadly, some people treat their pets as nothing more than property, forgetting they are living beings who feel pain, fear, and love.

This was the reality for Nakiyu, a dog who had spent his entire life on the streets without ever knowing the safety of a home.

As winter temperatures dropped dangerously low, Nakiyu faced his harshest challenge yet. Tied up outside, he trembled from the cold while his owners stayed comfortable indoors, seemingly unaware or uncaring of his suffering.

Nakiyu was eventually noticed by a couple passing by their house. Shocked to find the dog sitting helplessly in deep snow, they saw he was chained and unable to reach any form of shelter.

With nothing to eat and nowhere to go, he was left vulnerable and exposed. The couple couldn’t tell how much longer he would have lasted out there.

Concerned, they knocked repeatedly on the door, but no one came out. Although lights were on inside, it was clear the people in the house had no interest in the animal outside.

Realizing time was running out, the man rushed to a nearby store to buy metal cutters. Together, the couple worked to free Nakiyu from the chain and wasted no time getting him to a veterinarian.

The vet was shocked by the dog’s condition, surprised Nakiyu wasn’t a stray given how neglected he looked.

Nakiyu was weak, infested with ticks, and covered in wounds. Although he wasn’t completely emaciated, signs showed his owners had only recently stopped feeding him properly.

Injuries around his neck indicated he’d been tied up for too long. His fur was in terrible shape, and the tick infestation had left him anemic, barely able to stand.

After being exposed to the cold for so long, Nakiyu was also suffering from hypothermia.

Thanks to the couple’s quick actions, Nakiyu received the urgent medical care he needed. Without their help, this winter could have been his last.
