When Gloria Cabal, a dedicated local dog rescuer, came across a dog named Salvatore standing guard at his residence, she felt compelled to help him.
For nearly a month, Cabal attempted to lure Salvatore with food, water, and treats, but the apprehensive dog wouldn’t leave his yard.
It wasn’t until a realtor moved him to a nearby park that Salvatore seemed to realize his family wasn’t coming back, prompting him to finally approach Cabal. This allowed her to take him to Everglades Angels Dog Rescue.
Denise Guevara, a staff member at Everglades Angels, explained to The Dodo, “He was very protective of his yard, guarding his belongings, but never in an aggressive manner.”
Once sheltered by the friendly team at Everglades Angels, Salvatore quickly became comfortable. The staff was heartbroken to learn that a dog, so evidently fond of human company, had been left behind.
“He’s a volunteer favorite,” Guevara shared, noting that it was apparent Salvatore had been raised in a family setting.
The once wary Salvatore now stands out as one of the shelter’s most endearing residents, frequently seeking affection and eagerly jumping onto the sofa to snuggle with people.
“He’s a total darling,” Guevara added.
Currently up for adoption at Everglades Angels, the team is optimistic that Salvatore will soon find a caring family.
Thanks to the efforts of compassionate animal advocates who never gave up on him, Salvatore has another chance to enjoy life with a family committed to loving and caring for him.
