Hope for Paws received an urgent message about a deaf senior dog living near a freeway. Although the area was vast and open, a helpful security guard guided Eldad and volunteer Joann Wiltz to the dog’s location.

The rescuers began their search on foot. Eldad quickly spotted the dog and signaled Joann to turn around.

Despite their efforts to approach quietly, the dog, being deaf, didn’t hear them coming due to the vibrations from the freeway.

Eldad prepared a snare to capture the dog when it lifted its head safely. The senior dog remained calm and appeared friendly. Joann noted that he had very few teeth.

The thought of the dog enduring nearly seven months of such a harsh environment deeply affected Eldad. The rescuers sat quietly with the dog until he felt comfortable enough to eat.

The team named him Mr. Rogers and hoped he would follow a cheeseburger into the crate. Initially, Mr. Rogers was hesitant and nervous, so Eldad gently reassured him of his safety. Gradually, Mr. Rogers gained trust in Eldad and Joann and entered the crate willingly.

Mr. Rogers was taken to the Hope for Paws facility, where he was given a warm bath. Afterward, a vet checked him for a microchip and other health issues. The examination revealed an ear infection, but Mr. Rogers was otherwise healthy.

Following his check-up, a friend of Eldad’s from Hollywood Huskies agreed to foster him and promised to find him a loving home.

After a few days in his foster home, Mr. Rogers’ ear infection had healed, and he was thriving as a happy, well-cared-for pup.
