A pet can bring immense joy and companionship, especially in your golden years. This was true for 75-year-old Australian fisherman Alfonse Attard and Jack Russell Terrier Jack. However, their recent fishing trip off the coast of Melbourne turned into a near-tragic adventure.

While fishing about a kilometer from Altona Beach, Attard noticed his boat was leaking. The boat capsized early in the morning, throwing Attard and Jack into the ocean.

Clinging to the overturned boat, Attard hoped for rescue. Fortunately, two fishermen, Laurie Borg and his son Trever, spotted and rescued him.

Once safely ashore, Attard was overwhelmed with worry for Jack, his loyal companion of 18 years. Determined to find the dog, the water police and the Altona Life Saving Club sprang into action. They located the capsized boat and discovered Jack inside, sitting in the nose of the vessel.

It was believed that an air pocket had kept Jack afloat, and the tenacious Terrier had endured the seawater until help arrived.

The volunteers brought Jack back to shore, reuniting him with a jubilant Attard, who expressed immense relief and joy. Attard speculated that a loosened plug under the boat had caused the leak.
