In late May, the Humane Society of Lebanon County (HSLC) in Pennsylvania received an urgent call from local authorities about a dog in distress. A dog was found in a storm drain, seemingly lifeless. As rescuers lifted the drain cover, the dog slowly lifted its head, showing a glimmer of hope.
A volunteer and a staff member from HSLC immediately rushed to the location, prepared for the likelihood that the dog would need medical attention. The scene they encountered was heart-wrenching. The dog, extremely frail, was curled up in the drain, teetering on the edge of survival.

The team carefully extracted the dog and swiftly transported it to an emergency veterinarian clinic for necessary treatment. It was soon revealed that the dog, named Buddy, was a 15-year-old who had been missing for three weeks. Fortunately, his owner was quickly found.
The Humane Society attempted several times to reunite Buddy with his family. However, their primary concern was ensuring Buddy’s recovery. Buddy underwent three days of intense life-saving treatment, and gradually, his condition began to improve. Although he has made significant strides in recovery, he is still an elderly dog requiring ongoing medical attention, including follow-up appointments, ultrasounds, x-rays, and a visit to an eye specialist.

Due to Buddy’s advanced age, administering medication is not a viable option. Therefore, finding a loving, patient foster home for Buddy is crucial. The Humane Society has generously offered to cover all expenses related to his ongoing medical care, as well as his food and nutritional needs.
Buddy doesn’t seem to mind the company of cats and does well with other calm dogs. The Humane Society shared, “In a world filled with negativity and misunderstandings, let’s focus on kindness, support, and healing. Let’s find Buddy a loving foster home. His journey continues.”
