Rescuing stray dogs can be a challenging and time-consuming endeavor, as showcased by a recent experience of Suzette Hall in California. Her dedication to helping a frightened dog living near a bank’s drive-thru illustrates the perseverance needed in this line of work.
The dog in question had been sheltering in bushes and was particularly fearful, making it difficult for anyone to get close. A compassionate local, Crystal, provided the pup with a small crate to offer some protection from the frequent rain, ensuring that the dog remained in one location.
Upon arriving to assist, Hall found the animal extremely shy and struggled for days at trying to coax it to safety. Her efforts were further complicated because employees at the bank were feeding the dog, removing the incentive for it to enter the baited kennel trap.
Determined to succeed, Hall borrowed her mother’s old car, due to vehicle issues, and enlisted the help of her friend, Lorena Zeballos, to devise a new plan. They realized their best chance was on a Sunday, when the bank was closed and the pup would not receive its usual meal.
Despite the dog’s skittish nature – it would often dart back to the bushes at the slightest disturbance – the plan was set in motion. On that Sunday, the trap was once again placed, and after some initial hesitation, the hungry dog finally approached and entered it. The trap worked, and the rescuers could finally secure the pup.
After the successful rescue, the dog extended her paw towards Hall, seemingly acknowledging her new safety and the help she received. Hall’s commitment paid off, and she is now focused on helping the pup recover fully and find a loving home.
This inspiring story highlights the power of persistence and compassion in overcoming obstacles. Despite the difficulties faced, Hall’s determination ensured the well-being of a dog that otherwise might have continued struggling alone on the streets.
