In Platteville, Wisconsin, a touching incident has brought attention to the rising issue of stray and abandoned dogs that desperately need protection and care.
Many dogs across the country are abandoned, each with unique backgrounds and often traumatic pasts. Among them is Lola, a dog who couldn’t wait to be rescued.
The Platteville Police Department recently shared a story about Lola, found abandoned in the city. While responding to calls about loose animals isn’t rare for this department, this particular case stood out because the dog had a note with her.
A resident spotted Lola at Mound View Park and Campground, and when a police officer arrived, Lola eagerly leapt into their squad car. “This sweet girl came right over to the officer and jumped in the squad,” the department posted on Facebook.
Upon closer inspection, the officer noticed a handwritten note attached to Lola’s pink collar. The note requested, “Please help. Take me to a shelter. My name is LOLA.”
The note and Lola’s sad eyes deeply moved the officer, signaling that Lola had been left behind by her owners, something illegal under Platteville’s municipal laws.
The police department reached out to the public, asking for help in identifying Lola’s original owners, expressing their desire to speak with them.
Lola’s story touched many hearts and raised questions about her past and the circumstances leading to her abandonment. While the police continued their investigation, Lola was cared for at the Platteville Veterinary Clinic, which immediately began searching for a new home for her.
Fortunately, Lola didn’t wait long for a second chance at happiness. Just a week later, she was adopted. Both the police department and the veterinary clinic announced the good news, sharing that Lola was off to a new and loving forever home.
