In Houston, Texas, a small brown dog named Robbie spent three weeks lingering outside a busy Dollar General, seeking the attention of passersby as he sheltered under a plastic chair.
His wait for rescue finally ended when Kristin Erwin noticed him and felt compelled to help.
In an interview with The Dodo, Erwin shared her thoughts on discovering Robbie: “I thought he was the prettiest thing, with chubby tiny legs. It crushed my heart to learn he’d been here for three weeks.”

Erwin, who regularly engages in dog rescues, first spotted Robbie wandering around a nearby parking area. Curious about the lone dog’s presence, she went inside the Dollar General to inquire.
The cashier mentioned that someone would eventually come for Robbie, but Erwin remained doubtful. She left her contact information with the cashier, expressing a willingness to help if Robbie’s guardian never showed up.
Her instincts proved correct when she soon received a message confirming that Robbie was in need of assistance.

“It was already becoming dark, so I dashed over to the Dollar General,” Erwin recounted.
Together with the helpful store employee, Erwin managed to coax Robbie into her car, ensuring his safety and comfort at her home.
Once there, Erwin gave Robbie time and space to adjust to his new environment. Initially, Robbie seemed anxious and inactive, leading Erwin to believe he was scared.

However, as she spent more time with him, she realized he was simply a relaxed dog. Erwin noted that he was “totally comfortable, eating and napping.”
Thanks to the efforts of Lola’s Lucky Day, Robbie has been placed in a nurturing foster home, where he will stay until he finds a permanent family. After an uncertain start, Robbie now looks forward to settling into a forever home filled with love and care.
