A severely injured dog, wary of humans and difficult to approach, eventually found solace and trust in a group of dedicated rescuers who braved bites to gain his confidence.

“When I reached the location described by the caller, I spotted a white dog. He had been using a blanket with an American flag pattern as his bed,” said one of the rescuers.
As the rescuer cautiously tossed food to him, it became apparent that the dog was missing a portion of his back leg.

Though initially lured by the food, the dog would retreat fearfully into the nearby woods if anyone approached too quickly.
Understanding his fear, Loreta, a team member known for her patience, decided to sit quietly, showing no frustration, to gain the dog’s trust.

“After 45 minutes, I finally managed to feed him directly from my hand. That’s when I gently caught him by the scruff of his neck,” Loreta explained.
Despite being scared and having bitten his rescuers, the team successfully secured him and named him Washington.

Washington, despite his severe leg injury, remained in good spirits during his journey to the veterinary hospital.
Once there, he even wagged his tail while lying on the examination table, signaling his contentment.

“At the hospital, we shaved and cleaned him up. Although he lost the tip of his foot, the rest of it could be saved,” a team member noted.
Now, whenever Washington sees his rescuers, he greets them with a joyful full-body smile.

After receiving treatment, Washington was placed in a temporary care facility, where he awaits his foster parents.
