In January 2021, we adopted Harlow from the P.S.A shelter. When he was discovered, he had been left alone in a sealed room while his previous owner was on vacation. Due to his severely underweight condition, he didn’t attract any adopters.
When I brought Harlow home, he was quite anxious about staying indoors. I found that spending time with him and talking softly helped him feel more comfortable. Providing him with food was crucial as well, to help him regain his weight.
“The day after we brought him home, Harlow managed to play a little with Jada outside. However, leaving him alone seemed to upset him significantly, so I constantly engaged with him and even let him sleep in my room for a few nights,” I recall.

Fortunately, Harlow had a healthy appetite and gained 2 kilograms within a week, though he still appeared very thin—at his worst, he was about 20 kilos underweight.
Over time, Harlow’s confidence grew. He became less anxious and was comfortable walking outside, no longer frightened by darkness. He especially enjoyed running around in the garden.

“After three months, I took him to the beach for the first time, and he absolutely loved it,” I shared.
Reflecting on Harlow’s journey, it’s heartwarming to see him now—a healthy, confident, and sometimes mischievous dog who delights in playful antics.
“He has developed a bit of a bad habit that I’m not fond of, but I’m relieved that he has moved past his traumatic experiences,” I added.
