Rescue workers are no strangers to heartbreaking cases, but Alma’s condition was truly devastating. The small dog had been suffering in silence, enduring unbearable pain for months.
A massive tumor had taken over her leg, making even the simplest movements excruciating. Fearful and traumatized, she had learned to expect nothing but pain from humans.

When Victor Larkel’s rescue team arrived, they knew they had to act fast. The rescue itself was intense, with everyone racing to secure Alma and get her the urgent care she needed.
Upon closer examination, they realized the extent of her suffering—she had even been shot at some point in her past.

Despite everything, Alma showed incredible strength. She slowly began to trust her caregivers, allowing them to treat her wounds and feed her by hand.
“We’re waiting on her CT scan and biopsy results, but for now, she’s receiving constant care,” Victor Larkel shared. “We’ll do everything possible to save her life while also trying to preserve her leg.”

Veterinarians suspected the tumor was a liposarcoma, a type of growth that, fortunately, was not malignant. Though removing it would be a challenge, the team remained hopeful.
Before surgery, Alma needed treatment for anemia, along with regular cleaning and dressing of the tumor site. She also received her first proper bath, a symbolic step in washing away the years of neglect.

Finally, the day arrived. Alma was cleared for surgery and wheeled into the operating room. The procedure would remove the heavy, painful mass that had burdened her for so long.
Once she woke up, she would be free from the constant agony she had endured. Post-surgery, Alma would begin chemotherapy and rehabilitation to ensure her recovery.

Alma’s life is finally changing for the better. From a lonely dog in pain to a beloved patient receiving the best possible care, she is on the path to a new, pain-free future.

Her journey is a testament to resilience, compassion, and the incredible work of rescuers who refuse to give up on animals in need.
